We are currently seeking an experienced Underwriting Manager on behalf of West Wawanosh Mutual Insurance (WWMIC), due to a vacancy created by an internal promotion. Reporting directly to the Director of Operations, you will be a vital member of the senior leadership team and play a central role in shaping and executing the underwriting strategy that drives the organization’s growth and long-term success.

Leading a team of ten underwriters, you will oversee the development and implementation of underwriting policies, procedures, and best practices. Your collaborative leadership style will strengthen team capability while fostering strong cross-functional relationships with other department leaders to promote a cohesive, positive work culture.

West Wawanosh Mutual Insurance (WWMIC) was formed in 1879, by a group of farmers who banded together when other insurance companies refused to help. They have a deep history of supporting their neighbours and a commitment to strong relationships and local connections.
With just under 30 employees, WWMIC currently underwrites approximately $30 million in gross written premium and has a sizable surplus.  Located in beautiful Goderich, Ontario, WWMIC offers insurance coverage for commercial, farm, residential, and automobiles West Wawanosh Mutual Insurance Company  Underwriting Manager to communities such as Blyth, Goderich, Seaforth, Lucknow, Kincardine, Hanover, Owen Sound, Bracebridge, and Parry Sound.

 

Key Qualifications

  • Certified Insurance Professional (CIP) designation
  • Ten years of experience working in the property and casualty insurance industry, in roles of increasing responsibility
  • Possess business acumen and the interpersonal skills necessary to build tri-lateral relationships, negotiating sound business deals with multiple constituencies:  brokers/agents, customers, and key stakeholders
  • Ability to manage complex and conflicting priorities
  • Proven ability to lead a cohesive, engaged and motivated team
  • Demonstrated passion for community
  • Previous experience with Cognition+ and IBS as well as the mutual insurance industry, is an asset
  • An understanding of reinsurance products available via Farm Mutual  Reinsurance to WWMIC, is an asset
  • A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation is required  

Compensation

Compensation will be commensurate with background and experience and will include a base salary and benefits.
